ATS 002: Create a Website with a Managed Budget

ATS 002: Create a Website with a Managed Budget

Creating a website with a financial struggle is real. Especially if you are starting out to make those pieces into an online presence. In this episode, I will give you 2 ways you can create your website depending on your budget.

Way #1 : One-time Investment for Longer Term

Initial Investment: Php 10, 500

Purchased Domain Name: Php 500 (Billed Annually)
Purchased Hosting Server: Php 10,000 (Billed Every 3 years)

Annual Maintenance Fee: Php 500

Annual: Php 500 (One-time payment for 1 year)
Monthly: Php 0 (No Monthly Payment)

Expenses in 3 years: Php 11,500

Hosting Server: Php 10,000
Domain Name: Php 1,500

Overall Monthly Estimated Expenses: Php 320

Ups & Downs of Way #1
Ups:

  • No monthly expenses
  • Minimal annual renewal
  • One-time investment within 3 years

Downs:

  • You need a higher initial budget to start
  • After 3 years, pricing usually goes up to regular or much higher pricing
  • If you decided to stop, you will not be able to get a refund unless the service offered a 30 money-back guarantee
Way #2 : Monthly Investment for Shorter Term

Initial Investment: Php 1, 500

Purchased Domain Name: Php 500 (Billed Annually)
Purchased Hosting Server: Php 1,000 (Start Free and Add Fund for 2 Months)

Annual Maintenance Fee: Php 6,500

Annual: Php 500 (One-time payment for 1 year)
Monthly: Php 500 (Monthly Payment)

Expenses in 3 years: Php 19,500

Hosting Server: Php 18,000
Domain Name: Php 1,500

Overall Monthly Estimated Expenses: Php 540

Ups & Downs of Way #2
Ups:

  • Low initial investment
  • Minimal annual and monthly renewal fees
  • Only pay for what you consume
  • If you decided to stop, you will no longer have to pay anything

Downs:

  • If you compute the overall expenses it is much higher than the one-time investment
  • One-time investment for 3 years is still a savvy way when it comes to overall expenses
These are the 2 ways I suggest to create your own website. Either if you can provide a higher initial investment, you can go with #1, if your budget is limited but still wanted to try, go with #2. And in any case, that you still don’t have any budget, go with those free website builders as long as you can deal with those limited features. Listen to this episode about Free websites vs Branded websites.

ASENSO TIP 101:

If in case that you hesitate to have an initial investment, it’s totally fine to use free website builders as long as you can live with it’s limited features.

But still, it would be enough to have a good jump start with a branded website and go with Way #2. With Cloudways and with my coupon code ‘SBB20‘, you can build your own branded website with minimal initial investment.

ATS 001: Free Website vs Branded Website

ATS 001: Free Website vs Branded Website

ATS 001: Free Website vs Branded Website

You want to create your own website either for personal or business yet you are confused if you will go for the free website or start with a brand. This session talks about the limited functions if you are going to use a free website and the benefits of creating a branded one.

How to create a free website?
Free websites can be created through free website builders. Once you have your account, you are ready to start with the design and contents. These website builders make it easy for you to create your website because it doesn’t need you to be a programmer. Most of the time, the core features of these free website builders is they are designed as drop-and-down and/or user-friendly systems.

These website builders acts as your hosting server. To know more about hosting server, you can watch this episode: Show and Tell Ep. 8: Connect Domain Name to Hosting Server

Some of the best and recommended website builders are Wix, Weebly and WordPress.com

WordPress.com is different to WordPress.org as WordPress.org is a free open-source Content Management System that is installed to your server so you can design your website while WordPress.com is a free website builder which doesn’t require you to install anything. All you need is to create an account and proceed with design.

Limitations of using a free website
Free websites do not own their domains. They become a subdomain of the website builders’ primary domain. Since they create their account under that website builder. Free websites also has intrusive ads that half promote the website builder used.

How to create a branded website?
If you decided to start with these free website builders, you can avail their paid service programs so that you can purchase your own domain and connect it. You will be able to have your own domain. At least you are promoting your own branded url. With paid service plans, you will be able to choose the features you wanted to add.

If you want to learn more about Domain Names and where you can purchase, you can check this episode: Show and Tell Ep.7: Register Domain Name with Namecheap

Another way to create your branded website is to buy your own domain name and avail a hosting service like Cloudways. There’s a one-click install WordPress so you can start building your own branded website.

ASENSO TIP 101:

If you are still not yet ready on creating a branded website because of lack of budget, then using free website builders is good. As long as you can live with all the limited functions of it.

Still, we recommend on creating a branded website where you use your own domain especially if you are creating a website for your business, because this will make your business authentic.
